Faithful Motherhood

Comfort for the Mom Crying in Her Bathroom

First of all let me just say, as a mom of eight I have been here so many times. In fact there have been seasons where I have been the mom in need of comfort crying in my bathroom daily. I just want to tell you it’s going to be ok. God sees you and your hard work, the sacrifices you have made, even when no one else does. He knows how exhausted you are, and how you really don’t think you can make it another day with all the responsibilities of taking care of your blessings, your home and your husband. Maybe you even have to work as well or have ministry responsibilities.

The pile of dirty laundry that never stops, the constant crying or complaining, the dishes and the long talks with teens. The diapers and the meals they just go on and on. That’s just on a regular day, but then you throw in outside stressors like bills, job issues, family disagreements, whatever it is. Sometimes it just all feels like it is too much to handle one more day. Even one more hour.

I just want to encourage you to cry out to Jesus in these moments, He hears you and He is there with you He truly is. The enemy wants you to think that you are all alone, that all the other moms you know or see online have it all together. That they never lose their patience and yell, or don’t really want to be the mom for today.

What Doesn’t Help:

First let’s start with what doesn’t help. Looking for an unhealthy distraction, like scrolling your phone mindlessly for too long, diving too deep into the chocolate, indulging in too much wine, shopping for things you don’t need. We all crave a distraction when we are overwhelmed by emotion, but truly they don’t fulfill us more than a few moments.

What is a Comfort for the Mom Crying in her Bathroom?

💛Prayer

Crying out to God in our weakest moments is the first thing we need to do. Pour out to him on bended knees all that we are going through, all that we are feeling. We don’t even have to fully understand our feelings or know exactly what is at the bottom of it all. He already knows and is waiting for us to come to him, so he can give his peace that surpasses understanding. For me personally, physically writing out my prayers helps with the processing of my emotions as I pray.

💛Remember God’s Presence

It can feel so lonely to be a mom sometimes. Sometimes there are particular dynamics in our life that make us feel like we can’t even share or maybe we feel too embarrassed (like maybe everyone has it together and we are the only one who doesn’t–they don’t!). But when we have Jesus, we are never alone! He is always there with us a faithful friend, encourager and Mighty Savior. He always understands and is there to comfort us.

💛Renew Your Mind in God’s Truths

When you have calmed a bit, spend a few minutes renewing your mind in God’s truths. It can be hard to even remember what these truths are when you are in an emotional state. But the Holy Spirit is with you and He will guide you. Open your bible ask the Lord to guide you. You can keep an ongoing list of encouraging verses to meditate on. If you are currently reading a certain book of the Bible, open that up, or a bible study. You can never go wrong no matter how you look to God’s word to sustain you. He will provide the truth you need. There are some encouraging verses listed at the bottom of this post as well as a free printable version!

💛Talk to Another Mom Friend or Believer

After we’ve gone to the Lord in prayer and spent time in His Word, it is good to also take time to talk to a mom friend. Or your husband or a pastor or believer that can encourage you. We all need someone to speak truth into our lives and to be there for emotional support. Just being listened to is huge when the weight of our world feels heavy. Make a date to meet up with a friend or make a phone call or text. I know I always feel so much better when I do this, even though it can be hard to make the time but to open up and be vulnerable, but it’s so worth it.
