Biblical Encouragement for Moms on Hard Days

Some mornings you wake up and jump out of bed with a song in your heart ready to tackle the day, while on other days, you just want to pull the covers over your head and tell everyone to go away. These days we need biblical encouragement for moms for hard days.

Maybe the baby had you up all night or you are waking up exhausted for other reasons–maybe it was a full weekend with sports, family and friend gatherings, work on the house, and catching up on chores and church. Maybe you woke up late and feel like you don’t have time to start the day with Bible and prayer even though you know that is what helps center you for the day.

The house may already be loud and messy, and you just feel worn thin in a way you can’t even really fully articulate. You are certainly not alone and some days require a lot more strength than you have. The good news is that the Lord is always there to draw strength and help from. There are also some very practical things you can do to overcome these feelings of overwhelm.

Biblical Encouragement for Moms on Hard Days:

💛OBVIOUSLY a hard day requires the first step to get a large cup of coffee :). If it’s later in the day then maybe a soothing cup of decaf tea.

💛Then I suggest you reach for your Bible, even if it’s just a few verses and a short prayer. Ideally the more time you can manage the better, even if you have to cut somewhere else in the day’s routine. Renewing your mind in God’s truths (strength, endurance, trust) will be the biggest key to being able to adjust your attitude for what lies ahead in your day and your week.

💛Ask the Holy Spirit to help you. The Lord promises that He will give us the help we need in life, especially in those things He has specifically called us to–like the challenges in motherhood.

💛Don’t think of the whole day all at one time, but focus on blocks of the day and just take it one thing at a time.

God Meets You in Your Weakness

If we wake up on the wrong side of the bed for whatever reason, God says He meets us where we are. The moments where we feel the most inadequate for what lies ahead are the moments exactly where God is waiting to step in to give us the grace we need. It’s ok if we are weak, grumpy or sinful today, God’s grace is sufficient and He is adequate even if we are not.

💛My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness. -2 Corinthians 12:9

His Mercies Are New Every Morning-Even on the Hard Days

Today is a new day, one that is fresh with new mercies from the Lord. What we tend to do is ruminate on the previous day or week’s challenges. Or we get ahead of ourselves thinking about all the challenges that could occur and it quickly overwhelms us. But God says today is a new day today, one where He is present and sovereign.

💛His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning. -Lamentations 3:22-23

Remember God is only asking for our faithfulness. God is not asking us to get everything done perfectly right. He is only asking for a heart that tries to trust Him in the middle of the hard. We can’t really summon the motivation to do what God is calling us to, but with His help we can choose to be faithful in the little things step by step. That is enough on the hard days.

Other Things that Help on Hard Days:

-Do a little bit of exercise, particularly a walk outside if you can

-Step outside for a bit of fresh air and sunshine even for a few minutes

-Think about/write a list of things that you are grateful for

-Journal for a few minutes

-Take some deep breaths and pray

-Meditate on some scripture

-Call or text a friend to let them know you are struggling and ask them to pray for you!

-Make a gratitude list (list the things you are thankful for)

-Remember that your children don’t need you to be perfect and get it all right

You may feel tired and cranky today and like everything is too much to manage, but remember God is with you. One step at a time–you don’t tackle this day or any day alone. Hold onto this truth as you go about your day today.
